Workshop Nº4

VISE II


1.- How was your reception at the school you were assigned at? How did you feel? How did the students react when they saw you?


-In this second experience with VISE , which I am doing at the same school as last time, the reception was quite normal (like a another dependent of the establishment ) by the authorities, faculty and staff, as well as by the vast majority of students who remembered me and which I shared some moments. For this reason, I felt quite comfortable at the classroom and other school units.


2.- Talk about the school`s surrounding. Do you think it affects the learning process?


-The school is located in a quiet residential area with tree-lined streets, away from the annoying noise and the modern hustle, this creates an atmosphere conducive to good learning.But, in order to get a effectice learning all depends on school as a whole and of the methods put into practice



3.- Describe your guide teacher, use the following points:

a) Willingness to help you

b) Relation with the rest of the teachers and the personnel at school.

C) Personal charisma to teach

d) Proficiency in the L2

e) Relation with the students

f) Teaching methods


-My teacher “guide” has great willingness to help me, always with her basic and limited knowledge of english, like I said once in class, she is not an english teacher, in fact she is a french teacher... The role that play in the classroom is nothing else than containment.Under a professional prism, the things that is she doing are far from teaching. However, she has great charisma and get to cominicate well with the students and gets a stability in the classroom than other teachers complain of can't get. But, like I said before, she doesn’t play the function that she should be doing, that is teach english and what is worse, she doesn't shows no concern for trying to make a class... as I said, clearly containment.


4.- How is the relation among students in the class?, comment about behavior, motivation and levels of English.


- The relations between students is quite normal, the school works with integrated students, learning disabilities, Asperger's syndrome, endogenous depression among other features.
Many students come from private schools in which they reached a certain level of english, while others hardly know say good morning.


5.- Do you think this experience is going to be useful? Support your answer

-Clearly my experience has been, and will be of great help in theway of what not to do in an educational institution. I have lived the experience of the dark side of the educational system ( I had to dance with the ugly ) and I dont like it at all. I hope that in my next VISE experience I have the opportunity to know the other side, the side in where we all want to be part, especially after seeing how education in some places is nothing more but a good busines.
